RCTA Board

William Crow - President (Hawes)

Bill comes to teaching as a second career after years in business. He brought some of that background both to his job as secretary and to his role on the negotiation team. He has taken on more, first asi our president-elect/vice-president and he will serve us as president this year. He had already taken a vigourous role enforcing the terms of our contract that he negotiated during the 2006-2007 school, continued on the negotiating team in 2007-2008, and continues the valient efforts this year.

Bret Baird - President-elect (Kennedy)

I have been teaching since 1982 and have taught in Redwood City since 1988. I currently teach Physical Education at Kennedy Middle School. I first became active in RCTA in 1990 as a member of the negotiating team. Since then, I have been President four times. I like to help parents be more accountable for their child's success in school and I think this should be a major priority of our district. I am proud to continue to serve RCTA. Since 1990, Bret has dedicated much of his time to helping the teachers of Redwood City improve their working conditions.

Randi Lucas - Treasurer (Henry Ford)

I have been teaching in Redwood City for 24 years. I have taught 2nd through 5th grades, and served as Magnet Resource teacher for two years. I was a part time BSTA person for a year and served on many different committees in the District and at my school, Henry Ford. I am one of the State Council Representatives, RCTA and Grievance representative for Henry Ford. I enjoy teaching (whenever possible) and feel it is an extremely important profession. I have a lot of repect for all of you who have chosen teaching and all that goes with it. Enjoy the year!

Ann Huff - Asst.Treasurer (Hawes)

After doing an amazing job ras grievance chair, followed by a year as our treasurer, she agreed to stay on to assist the treasurer with the books. She has also served as one of Hawes' RCTA rep for the last four years. She has been teaching 5th grade at Hawes for six years. Ann was interested in being our teasurer because of her past business career. She plays keyboards in a worship band at her church, teaches piano, and loves the great outdoors.

Sara Morgan - Secretary (Kennedy)

The most amazing note-taker ever, Sara is beginning her second year as our secretary. She is an ELDERT for the district and formerly taught at Newcomers' Academy.

Jerald Stabile - Media and Communication Chair (Kennedy)

Jerry Stabile teaches visual art at Kennedy, formerly at McKinley and before that he taught elementary art in Syracuse N.Y. He has been on the RCTA executive board for three years. He is active at the district level with our newly formed VAPA ( Visual and Performing Arts) Steering Committee and is excited to see the district taking strides towards intigrating all the arts into our students' lives. He has also been a teacher-leader with TCAP and BayCap (The California Arts Project ) for the last 9 years. Please contact Jerry with any school or classroom news for our periodical RCTA newsletter. Photos or cartoons about education would be fun, too.

Jeanne Martin - Grievance (John Gill)

Jeanne did an amazing job at a very difficult task for the past two years and has agreed to serve in that function for another year. Grievance should not be primarily one person, but should be handled by a committee of folks from most, if not all, schools. Step up to the plate. (Comments provided by your webmaster.)

Heather Irani- Membership (John Gill)

I’ve been teaching since 1989 and have been in RCSD since 2003. I have a BCLAD, master’s degree, and an administrative credential. I have 2 gorgeous kids who are students in the district. I’m new to the membership position but in the past served as a site rep. Please always feel free to contact anyone on the RCTA Executive Board—we are here to help you!

Sharon Broadhead - Board Liason (Hawes)

Sanda Everette - Webmaster (Hawes)

I feel like I have been around unions all of my life. I began working for RCSD eight years ago. I have attended the Leadership Academy and Political Academy and been on the grievance committee. I was asked to take over the website three years ago, having been an amateur web designer for about 10 years. When not "working, I am busy as a social and political activist, including developing an "ecovillage" in San Mateo and being the webmaster for the Green Party National Women's Caucus. My first big website project was a resource page for teachers.

For the last three years I also had the opportunity to attend the CTA Regional Meeting and the NEA Representative Assembly increasing my knowledge about our union, the largest in the country.

Merna Black - Retirement
